Created in 1995, Portland TV is the broadcasting arm of Northern and Shell, and a leader in pay per view and subscription TV services. Its parent company, Northern & Shell, has a weekly readership of over 10million people; it owns four national newspapers and has a 50 per cent joint venture partner in two more in Eire. It also dominates important parts of the celebrity/consumer magazine market in the UK and worldwide with OK! magazine and its international versions.
Portland TV has three main business divisions across three sites –
Running 17 UK broadcast channels with carriage on SKY, Freeview, Virgin and BT Vision;
Creating and producing over 120 adverts a year alongside music videos and multi-camera event coverage;
and providing broadcast infrastructure to third party channels.
The head office is in London’s Docklands and includes a studio complex complete with post production, editing, graphics/compositing and sound dubbing facilities. Portland TV’s state of the art transmission and playout facility is based on Lower Thames Street in the City of London, whilst it’s scheduling, EPG and programming team are based in Jersey.
